 What is identity verification? What kind of documents are required?

Based on The Act on Prevention of Transfer of Criminal Proceeds in Japan, forwarding companies need to provide for verification of client identity. The law is to prevent money laundering and credit card fraud.

The following items are required for identity verification.
*Two documents showing your residential address are required.
- Name
- Date of birth
- Current address

Required documents are as follows.

■ Acceptable Documents for Identity Verification

- National ID
- Driver's License
- Passport
- Residence Card
- Other government-issued IDs

■ Acceptable Documents for Address Verification
*Must be issued by a national or government agency. The name on the document must match the name on your ID.

- Utility bill payment receipt(electricity, water, gas, etc.)
- Certified Copy of Family Register
- Certificate of Tax Payment

■ Unacceptable Documents for Address Verification

✖ Bank Statements
✖ Credit Card Statements
✖ Internet Provider Bills
✖ Mobile Phone Bills
✖ Student ID Cards
✖ Rental/Lease Agreements
✖ Business Cards
✖ Shipping Labels
